Hill Tree Farm

The 25.5-acre Hill Tree Farm features many easily hiked trails through fields, woodlands, and wooded wetlands plus lovely spots to stop, sit, and rest or observe nature. The property was Once a Christmas tree farm, the property has since been actively managed under the guidance of State of Connecticut foresters and Audubon Society representatives.

Its habitat makes it a wonderful place for bird watching and other nature studies.

The property was donated to East Haddam Land Trust in 2024 by Sarah Gworek and Graham MacDonald. Sarah inherited the property from her father, Lester Hill, then initiated the woodland management that brought the property to its current condition.

Sarah and Graham continue to steward the property and generously allow access to trails on their adjacent private property.  These trails are marked with dotted lines on the downloadable trail map. They connect with trails on the land trust property. Please respect the private property trails by closely following the trail blazes.

The Hill Tree Farm has two access points. There is limited parking in a lot on Ballahack Road #2 with access to flat or gently sloping trails. A larger parking lot on Schulman Veselak Road provides access to a slightly more challenging trail through wetlands.

Counting steps as part of your exercise routine?
Preserve-like terrain averages about 2080 steps per mile. The length of each trail is listed on the printed maps for each preserve available at the trailheads and downloadable from the interactive trail map and from each preserve webpage.
