We Are An Accredited Land Trust

The accreditation seal was awarded to East Haddam Land Trust, Inc. for meeting the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence.

As of November 2019, East Haddam Land Trust is one of 30 land trusts in Connecticut and one of 400+ in the United States to earn accreditation from the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. This distinction assures donors and partners that East Haddam Land Trust follows strong standards, has sound finances, conducts itself ethically, governs responsibly, and provides lasting stewardship to its preserves. The Land Trust provided extensive documentation and was subject to a comprehensive third-party evaluation prior to achieving accreditation.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission inspires excellence, promotes public trust and ensures permanence in land conservation by recognizing organizations meet rigorous quality standards and strive for continuous improvement. The Commission, established in 2006 as an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, is governed by a volunteer board of diverse land conservation and nonprofit management experts.

The Land Trust Alliance, founded in 1982 and based in Washington, D.C., is a national land conservation organization that works to save the places people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America. The Alliance represents 1,000 member land trusts supported by more than 200,000 volunteers and 4.6 million members nationwide. The Alliance serves the entire land trust community in every state by representing policy priorities of land conservationists and providing educational programs.

This year, 2024, we are undergoing the accreditation renewal process. Until September 20, 2024, you have the opportunity to comment on our land trust and how it meets the accreditation standards and practices. Read the Stakeholder Notice below for more information.

Stakeholder Notification/Public Notice
The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. East Haddam Land Trust (EHLT) is pleased to announce it is applying for renewal of accreditation. A public comment period is now open.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. East Haddam Land Trust received its initial accreditation in 2019 and found its self-review and subsequent Land Trust Accreditation Commission review made EHLT a stronger organization. EHLT is again completing its self-review as part of the renewal of accreditation process.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how East Haddam Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-practices.

To learn more about the accreditation program and to submit a comment, visit www.landtrustaccreditation.org, or email your comment to info@landtrustaccreditation.org. Comments may also be mailed to the Land Trust accreditation Commission, Attn: Public Comments, 36 Phila Street, Suite 2, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
Comments on East Haddam Land Trust’s application will be most useful by September 20, 2024.
